This show acts as a label showcase of sorts for Cincinnati’s Feel It Records. Sweeping Promises, who Feel It shares with the legendary label Sub Pop Records, have been one of the most talked about bands on music outlets across the country in recent months. Combining fearless recording and song structure choices, the charm of home recording, a punk background and pop hooks aplenty has landed them some high level critical praise. The band is on tour from Kansas. Fuzz-punk rockers Beef will launch their new self-titled Feel It release at this show. Local soon-to-be labelmates Corker open the show. 8:30 p.m. Aug. 2. $12 in advance and $16 at the door. MOTR Pub, 1345 Main St., Over-the-Rhine, motrpub.com.

Local legends the Fairmount Girls have performed at storied venues of Cincinnati’s past but remain a central local band with their effervescent alt-pop and unique style. The Dolly Daredevils is the new name for the former band Breaking Glass, with some new touches and added dynamics, but not forgetting the all-female three piece’s original powerhouse garage-rock drive. Sistern rounds out the bill. 9 p.m. Aug. 4. $10. Northside Tavern, 4163 Hamilton Ave., Northside, facebook.com/events.

West side venue Legends has been making a name for itself with choice bookings, and this show might be their best so far. Two of Cincinnati’s most popular bands, Vacation and Lung, share a bill with touring mates Screaming Females from New Jersey along with the newly solo Maura Weaver (The Mimes, Mixtapes) ahead of her solo release next month on Don Giovanni Records. Vacation might be the essential entry point to understanding Cincinnati rock and roll with their soaring rock and roll wave and dynamic blend of punk and lo-fi pop, Lung add a nuanced touch as a two-piece cello and drum-driven operatic art-rock. Screaming Females are legends in their own right — the band has opened for huge acts like The Dead Weather, Arctic Monkeys and The Breeders, and singer/guitar player Marissa Paternoster was named the 77th greatest guitarist of all time by Spin magazine. 7 p.m. Aug. 17. $17 in advance and $22 at the door. Legends Bar & Venue, 3801 Harrison Ave., Cheviot, legendscincy.com.

Cincinnati post-punk mainstays Old City have some changes and exciting moves in store in the near future, one of which is that singer/guitar player Sammy McKee’s wife, Kathleen McKee of Perfect Stranglers, will be joining the band on bass for the first time at this show ahead of recording new material in later months. Local noise rock band Plug will open along with newer locals, Stokelys. 9:30 p.m. Aug. 17. Free. MOTR Pub, 1345 Main St., Over-the-Rhine, motrpub.com.

This three-day roots music festival in the valley of Oregonia along the Little Miami River is just a short drive north of the city and promises bluegrass in the environment it’s best enjoyed, among the countryside and rolling hills. Little River would fit nicely alongside the others on the recent list of CityBeat’s suburban dive bars. Built over 100 years ago and turned into a bar over 50 years ago, the bar and restaurant has served local characters and visitors from the bike trail for decades. Highlights of the festival include local traditional bluegrass string band Slippery Creek and Americana and bluegrass band My Brother’s Keeper among many others over the three days of the festival. 6:30-11 p.m. Aug. 18; noon-11 p.m. Aug. 19; noon-6:30 p.m. Aug. 20. $10 on Friday, $15 on Saturday and $10 on Sunday or $30 for all three days. Little River Bar and Grill, 5527 Oregonia Road, Oregonia, facebook.com/events.
