In the past, seeing Flea in concert was a completely different experience. Time changes everything, but 2026 has proven to be a significant shift for the acclaimed Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist. No longer is he placing socks over his unmentionables, but rather taking over elegant theaters to perform Honora, his debut solo album that reframed the rocker as the horn-blarring jazz mastermind he always saw himself as. With the release of Flea’s latest album garnering critical acclaim from both Chili Pepper heads and the jazz world alike, Flea has forged a new era for his career by following his artistic instincts, and it’s time to take them on the road. On May 7, Flea and his Honora Band entered Thalia Hall in Chicago for night one of their nearly sold-out tour.
With no openers reported, Flea and the Honora Band immediately launched into tunes from Honora, playing a majority of the album. The night kicked off with the live debut of “Traffic Lights,” a single from Honora, with a large portion of the setlist featuring the first time Flea and his band performed Honora‘s songs live. Songs like “The Plea,” “Frailed,” and “Morning Cry” were also performed for the public for the first time. Along with Honora, Flea also reached back to his 2012 EP, Helen Burns, with a performance of “Lovelovelove.” The tracklist also includes portions titled “Good Night Darius” and “Shred of Hope,” two songs with not much information available. Outside of “Willow Weep For Me,” Flea performed every song from Honora, including his covers of Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin’ Bout You” and Funkadelic’s “Maggot Brain.”
Night one of Flea and the Honora Band’s May tour is in the books, and they have a select few dates left on the outing. Next, Flea will travel to Canada, stopping in Toronto and Montréal, before returning to the States for shows in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles. The tour will wrap up with a string of European shows, including performances in Berlin, Amsterdam, and Antwerp.
