Sarah Jessica Parker voiced strong concerns about book banning at the Sundance Film Festival on Friday, highlighting a new documentary that follows librarians fighting censorship.
As executive producer of The Librarians, Parker emphasized the danger of removing books from libraries, and her fears have just risen now Trump has taken office.
“The idea of these librarians being in the crosshairs, it felt really scary and wrong and absolutely misunderstood,” she said during a talkback panel at the Variety lounge.
The documentary follows the Freedom Fighters, a group of Texas school librarians who resisted book bans after state lawmaker Rep. Matt Krause targeted 850 books for removal, including classics like Catcher in the Rye and The Handmaid’s Tale.
Parker warned that book banning poses a broader threat.
Parker and her family made a viral, rare public appearance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Sex and the City star was spotted with husband Matthew Broderick and their three children – James, 21, and 15-year-old twin daughters Tabitha and Loretta.
The family posed for a photo outside the Olympic Stadium, with Paris 2024 billboards filling the background.
