What happens when your family makes headlines after a presidential inauguration? For the Cyrus clan, it’s been a whirlwind of emotions and public drama. But Miley Cyrus? She’s keeping her distance.
Following Billy Ray Cyrus’s controversial set at President Donald Trump‘s Liberty Ball on Monday, January 20, an insider revealed to People that the 32-year-old Hannah Montana alum has no plans to engage with the fallout.
“Miley used to feel overwhelmed by the family drama,” the source shared in an interview published Sunday, January 26. “She worked hard to remove herself. She’s not about to get involved again.”
For those who missed it, Billy Ray’s performance didn’t exactly go as planned. The 63-year-old “Achy Breaky Heart” singer faced multiple technical difficulties during his set, including his guitar cutting out. At one point, he was left wandering the stage, singing a cappella to an increasingly confused audience.
The mishap sparked plenty of reactions online, but it was Billy Ray’s adopted son, Trace Cyrus, whom he shares with ex-wife Tish Cyrus, who made waves with a lengthy open letter to his dad on Instagram.
“It seems this world has beaten you down and it’s become obvious to everyone but you,” the 35-year-old Metro Station vocalist wrote. “We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew & hoping for the day he returns.”
Trace’s post also mentioned, “Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you’ve pushed all of us away.” While it’s not clear whether Miley shares those concerns, the insider revealed, “She’s in a great place now. She’s thriving and looking out for herself.”
Billy Ray, meanwhile, announced plans to release a new album this summer, which will be produced and co-written by his 30-year-old son, Braison Cyrus.
“I’m so proud to lean into the music with Braison,” the Grammy winner said in a press release on Friday, January 24. “This is art imitating life, imitating art. It starts and ends with art. Braison is very talented and 25 is his year. I’m glad to be a part of it. This record is gonna be special. I’m gearing up for what will be the journey of a lifetime.”
In addition to Trace, Miley, and Braison, Billy Ray shares Brandi, 37, and Noah, 25, with Tish, 57, who he married in 1993 and divorced in 2022. He is also dad to Christopher, 32, from a previous relationship with Kristin Luckey.
