Jinkx Monsoon is ready to push the envelope even further.
The drag performer, who has already broken barriers by becoming the first two-time winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race (RPDR season 5 and All-Stars season 7) and appearing on Broadway and Doctor Who, is back for a second season of her sketch comedy show aptly titled Sketchy Queens.
“Season 2, you have a little more permission to lean into what’s unique about your show, because you know now you have an audience for it,” Jinkx, 37, told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview before the November presidential election. “And we really did that. We weren’t afraid at all this season to do anything really. We have a lot of political satire, we have a lot of social satire, and we also have a lot of really weird sketches that just don’t make a whole lot of sense, but are going to be really funny.”

“Weird” is a calling card for the performer, who first introduced herself as “Seattle’s Premier Jewish Narcoleptic Drag Queen” back in 2013. In the decade-plus since winning Season 5 of Drag Race, Jinkx has honed her craft and voice, collaborating with Liam Krug to bring a whole new set of sketches.
The season 2 trailer shows a play on the current blockbuster Wicked, a twisted magic show and literal toilet humor. Jinkx says despite all the variety, the idea stems from one source: herself.
“I have a big mouth and a lot of opinions. So pretty much everything I say, think, do and breathe is all in line with like, who I am as a person,” she explains. “And when we do the work ourselves to be more mindful, more cognizant, more perceptive people with open minds and open hearts, that shows in our work.”

Jinkx also recognizes what it means to have her show amid ongoing attempted legislation against drag artists.
“We, as queer people, we have always been here. Trans people have always been here, and not just here [in America], all around the world. We we’ve always existed,” she explained.
“And people using religion as a shield? It’s so asinine and so hypocritical because the teachings of Jesus Christ are to love even the most downtrodden of humankind,” she added. “Jesus loved the most disenfranchised more because they had less. Mainstream media has opened up to drag queens and trans entertainers and unapologetically queer entertainers and queer entertainers who are also POC. And now that we’ve experienced it, there is no way you can take it away from us. Like, how dare you even imply that you could take this away from us, now that we know what it feels like to be in the spotlight? Because there is no way we’re going back to the shadows.”
