With just under two weeks to go until the start of the 2025 Invictus Games, Prince Harry will no doubt be busy preparing for the big event behind the scenes.
Although the Duke of Sussex, 40, is no longer a working royal, the prince continues to be in charge of the Invictus Games organisation, which he launched in 2014 after serving in Afghanistan.
As well as being an opportunity for men and women who serve in the armed forces and veterans to come together and enjoy sports competitively, the Invictus Games Foundation also helps people who were injured in conflict to move forward and focus on their recovery and future.
While the Invictus Games is Harry’s own project, his wife Meghan Markle, 43, often attends the events with him, with a source close to the couple claiming that it will be the same this year.
Here is everything you need to know about The Invictus Games 2025…
The Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 is a competitive event for ill and injured armed forces personnel and veterans to compete in. Over 500 competitors from over 20 nations are expected to attend this year and will compete in adaptive sports.
It is also the first-ever winter hybrid edition of the Games.
The event this year will be held in Canada. The opening ceremony, set to be attended by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, will take place at BC Place Vancouver on February 8.
American singer Katy Perry will perform at the opening ceremony along with Grammy-nominated Noah Kahan and Canadian singer Nelly Furtado.
The closing ceremony will then take place at Rogers Arena on February 16 and will be the only “adult-only” part of the games.
On the Invictus Games websites, it has been confirmed that events of the multi-sports tournament will be held on the traditional territories of the x ʷ məθ kʷə y əm (Musqueam), S ḵwxw ú7mesh (Squamish), St ó:lō and S ə l ílw ətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, Skalulmecw L íl wat ̓ Nation and the G élpcal L ílwat Nation.
This year, a number of games are set to take place. As well as the Invictus Games sports that feature at each event, including indoor rowing, sitting volleyball, swimming, wheelchair rugby and wheelchair basketball, new winter sports will also be introduced.
This includes Alpine Skiing and snowboarding, Nordic skiing and biathlon, skeleton, and wheelchair curling.
Prince Harry will indubitably be excited about the upcoming event, which he will likely be attending with his wife.
In a statement on the Invictus Games Foundation website, the prince wrote: “The Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 will offer a global platform to expand the range and profile of winter adaptive sports.
“With deep respect, I’m also pleased to share that the Games in Canada will be held in partnership with the First Nations, in the spirit of truth and reconciliation with Indigenous communities.”
