Sleigh Bells have shared their nostalgic new single ‘Wanna Start A Band?’ and have shared details of a US tour.
The eccentric track features a flurry of noise, sharp guitars and lyrics such as: “Twenty years back in vision kicks / Right around like ninety-six / All I ever cared to dream / Do you wanna start a band with me?,” reflecting on Sleigh Bells’ early days as a duo.
According to a statement shared by the band, singer Alexis Krauss said: “In 2008 while eating at a restaurant in Brooklyn with my mom, our server, Derek, wasted very little time asking me, essentially, ‘Wanna Start A Band?’. Hard to believe that almost 17 years later we are still hyped and obsessively making records together.”
She continued: “Derek started messing with the riff for this song around 2014 — it needed a lot of work but a spark was there. We had a band by then but didn’t know how long it would last. For us, this song is a reminder of how we started but it’s also the first part of a new story we want to tell — more on that very soon!”
Along with ‘Wanna Start A Band?’, Sleigh Bells have also shared the details of their upcoming US tour. The duo’s last full-length release was 2021’s ‘Texis‘. In a four-star review of the LP, NME shared: “Perhaps – the electronic side of Sleigh Bells has undoubtedly matured way past the all-consuming fuzzbombs of their earliest records, taking on the gloss and polish of top-end laptops where once their songs sounded like they’d been dragged screaming and buzzing from a circuit board at Chernobyl. But age has not withered their attack; their original dynamic is back with a vengeance.”
