The Royal Family said they were “delighted” yesterday as they announced Princess Beatrice had given birth to her second child.
In a statement on social media, The Royal Family said Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice, 36, and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, welcomed their daughter Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi into the world last week on January 22.
The baby, which is Princess Beatrice’s second daughter, was born weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces.
While Beatrice is not a working royal, she is a much-loved member of the family and remains particularly close to her cousins Prince William, 42, and Prince Harry, 40.
Although it is not known whether Prince William, Princess Kate, and their three children have yet visited the new arrival, it appears William’s daughter already has a sweet link to her.
As well as the fact Princess Charlotte’s dad Prince William is cousins with Athena’s mum Princess Beatrice, the young relatives also share a similarity in their names.
This is because they both have the middle name Elizabeth – believed to be a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The Royal Family confirmed this week that Athena’s full name was Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, while Princess Charlotte’s full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
Beatrice’s older daughter Sienna, three, also has Elizabeth as her middle name.
A photo of the newest addition of the Royal Family was shared on social media yesterday, with the Royal Family confirming that they were all “delighted” with the news.
Princess Beatrice’s husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi also took to social media to announce the arrival of his daughter. He wrote: “We welcomed Baby Athena into our lives last week. She is tiny and absolutely perfect.
“We are all (including Wolfie and Sienna) already completely besotted with her. Our hearts are overflowing with love for you, baby Athena.
“A massive thank you from my wife and I goes out to all the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their exceptional care and support during this incredibly special time.”
