Sarah Ferguson had a “schoolgirl crush” on John F. Kennedy Jr. back in the day — and didn’t take no for an answer, despite his relationship status.
“On a trip to New York, Fergie asked her staff to find out if John Kennedy Jr. — handsome son of the assassinated JFK — was in town,” author Andrew Lownie writes in his upcoming book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, per an excerpt published by the Daily Mail. “Discovering where he was, she invited him for drinks or dinner at her hotel, which he accepted.”
According to Lownie, Ferguson, now 65, was informed that John Jr. was in a relationship with Daryl Hannah at the time but said, “That’s not going to bother me!”
John Jr. and Hannah, now 64, were together for five years, splitting in 1994. The actress was allegedly “bothered” by Ferguson’s invitation, so “Kennedy cancelled, claiming a prior engagement.”
Lownie’s book claims, “Staff were then ordered to spy on his apartment all night to check that he had told the truth,” as Ferguson wouldn’t “be discouraged.”
Lownie also alleges that Ferguson took issue with the late Princess Diana meeting John Jr. “for 30 minutes” in December 1995.
“She was furious: ‘He’s mine! Why can’t she just leave him alone?’” he writes. “She gave Kennedy a code name, ‘Number Nine’ — his place in the order of her lovers.”
The Duchess of York “spent hours scouring magazines for articles about him, cutting out pictures of him in his swimming trunks and talking to her friends about whether he would like different aspects of her personality,” the author continues.
Lownie claims a “close confidant” told him it seemed as though Ferguson thought things were “incredibly real” between her and John Jr.
“She spends hours talking about him,” the friend says. “The fact that she’s never even met him doesn’t seem to matter at all.”
Ferguson’s team declined to comment on the book, which hits shelves August 14.
Ferguson married Prince Andrew in July 1986. They were together for a decade before finalizing their divorce in May 1996. The former couple share daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. (Details about the exes’ alleged ups and downs will also be explored in Lownie’s book.)
John Jr., meanwhile, ended up marrying Carolyn Bessette in September 1996. The couple died in a plane crash off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard in July 1999.
