If you thought it was too early to get excited for the holidays, you haven’t seen the new trailer for “A Cherry Pie Christmas.”
The independent movie filmed entirely in Door County earlier this year is all twinkling lights, festive garlands, snowy landscapes and flaky crusts in a trailer released by TV production and distribution company Nicely Entertainment.
“Door County is the Christmas capital of the Midwest,” proclaims the lead character played by actress Katie Leclerc, and the charming trailer sure makes it feel that way.

It’s the first look at the movie, which is set in Door County during the holidays and tells the story of an ambitious pastry chef who returns to her small town during the holidays, rekindles an old romance and must decide between her career dreams and saving her family’s struggling cherry orchard business.
Iconic Door County landmarks The White Gull Inn, Lautenbach’s Orchard Country Winery & Market and Eagle Tower at Peninsula State Park, all in Fish Creek, get some camera time in the trailer. The Hillside Waterfront Hotel in Ephraim, Novel Bay Booksellers in Sturgeon Bay and Door County Trolley show up, too.
The film stars Leclerc, whose credits include the ABC Family drama “Switched at Birth” and Hallmark Channel’s 2024 movie “A Very Vermont Christmas,” and Ryan Carnes, best known for his stints as Lucas Jones on “General Hospital” and for his role on “Desperate Housewives.”
“A Cherry Pie Christmas” was written and directed by John Stimpson of H9 Films. His previous work includes “A Very Vermont Christmas,” “Letters to Santa” and “A Cape Cod Christmas.”

The movie has all the makings of one of those Hallmark feel-good holiday movies, including a quaint small-town backdrop, an old hometown boyfriend who re-enters the picture and a folksy cherry pie bake-off, but no details have yet been released about where or when viewers will be able to see “A Cherry Pie Christmas.”
“A Cherry Pie Christmas” put out a call in March looking for extras ahead of the start of filming and received such a big response in its first 18 hours that Destination Door County had to take down the online application form. Principal photography wrapped April 11.
