Taylor Swift’s Directorial Debut Gets Rewrite from Normal People Scribe

Writer Alice Birch is reportedly going to rewrite Taylor Swift‘s first movie as a director. Birch is widely known for her work in Normal People and Succession. She is also credited as a writer in Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson’s upcoming movie Die, My Love. The announcement of the singer making her directorial debut was made in 2022. Swift is working with Searchlight Pictures for the project.

Alice Birch will rewrite script for Taylor Swift’s directorial debut

Alice Birch is reportedly joining Taylor Swift’s first project as a director with Searchlight Pictures for a rewrite. The update was shared by popular Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider in his recent The InSneider report.

He stated, “I’m told that Alice Birch, the famed playwright who co-wrote the upcoming Jennifer Lawrence movie Die, My Love and served as a story editor on HBO’s Succession, has come on to rewrite Swift’s script. I’m told that the Birch is working closely with Swift and “tailoring” the project to her creative vision.”

Sneider further noted that Searchlight Pictures president Matthew Greenfield “is taking an active role in developing the project.” Thus, “Swift’s fans will be relieved to know that it’s moving forward, slowly but surely.” The project is currently untitled, and the cast and plot details have not been revealed.

The project was announced in 2022, and at the time Variety reported that Swift had given an original script to the studio. Greenfield, along with fellow Searchlight Pictures president David Greenbaum, referred to Swift as a “once-in-a-generation artist and storyteller” in a joint statement. They further commented that the studio feels “genuine joy and privilege” to work closely with the singer, “as she embarks on this exciting and new creative journey.”

Previously, the “Lover” hitmaker had written and directed her All Too Well: The Short Film.
