This summer has been an emotional one for Magnolia Network’s Joanna Gaines. The mom of five has been soaking up every moment she can with her clan before sending oldest son Drake back to college and oldest daughter Ella off for her first year away as well. And now, after a summer of making memories, the time has come. Joanna shared a sweet video of her “last dinner” with the whole family, and her post deeply resonated with fans who know exactly how she’s feeling.
The designer shared a video of the entire family hanging out at the family farm on Saturday, everyone gathered in the yard as she and husband Chip prepared homemade pizzas in her incredible outdoor pizza oven. The family was surrounded by their many dogs, including the new puppy named Marfa that Chip brought home after a road trip he took with the kids this summer. A puppy who, it turns out, is helping Joanna get through this emotional season of her life. “Gulp. Last dinner together before our oldest heads back to college and our second is about to leave home for her freshman year,” she shared with her 13.8 million followers, going on to add that she was “thankful for the group hug and all the puppies to help me work through my wide range of emotions.”
At the end of the video, Joanna is seen riding around on youngest son Crew‘s little motor bike, and that helped as well. Especially since she admitted that it “made me feel like a kid again.” Mostly, though, Joanna had one message for her family. “I love you kids so much.”
And that message had her fans getting emotional. “I’m bawling! I can feel ALL the emotions through the screen! You’re doing amazing Jo and Chip! So hard,” wrote one fan, while another added a note of support, “Growing kiddos, so sweet to see them grow up, but it’s just so fast. Hugs from one mama to another.”
Joanna Gaines is probably appreciating the support, especially as she has been so open about her conflicted emotions as she prepares to send daughter Ella off to college. She admitted earlier this summer that she’s finding it “harder” to say goodbye to Ella as she feels like she’s “losing a friend in my everyday life,” which makes sense as Ella was actually working as an intern at Magnolia with her mom before college.
Fortunately for Joanna, she has three kids at home, a thriving business, and a loving husband to ease the sting a little.
