Welcome to the Australian Art Music playlist! A monthly playlist of classical, jazz, experimental and electronic music focused on contemporary Australian composers, musicians and sound artists.
It’s always a joy to do a round up of the latest art music releases, and this quarter is no different, with solos for bassoon, recorder, or piano alongside new jazz groups and symphony orchestras.
As is often the case, I’ve picked out tracks that play well to together, but many of these pieces come from full albums or EPs of excellent music. If something takes your fancy definitely click through to listen to the whole release (or grab a copy on Bandcamp, via our Merchtable below).
If you have a new release that I’ve missed, or one coming up, please do send it through! I love getting to hear and feature musicians I haven’t before.
If you’re wanting more music to explore I’d always recommend the Australian Art Music Archive, with all 1,666 previously featured tracks (roughly 167 hours of music) and my 2024 community listening project: 1,000 Curious Ears – all 12 monthly editions of that series can be found here.
Until next month, may you all find new favourites,
-Cameron
