Take a step into the past in Tupelo as you tour Elvis Presley’s birth home and see representations of his life take form in both murals and statues.
Elvis Presley’s final public performance took place in Indianapolis on June 26, 1977, some seven weeks before he died in Memphis on Aug. 16.
The concert, held at Indianapolis’ Market Square Arena, was a sold-out event, attended by some 18,000 Elvis fans.
Twenty-two years earlier, in 1955, Presley made his first appearance in Indianapolis performing at the Lyric Theater as part of a bill topped by country star Hank Snow.
The June ’77 show at Market Square saw Presley perform many of his biggest hits and favorite songs, with a setlist that included “Jailhouse Rock,” “Hound Dog,” “It’s Now or Never,” “Love Me” and more.
His final number, and last of his performing career, was a rendition of “Can’t Help Falling In Love,” a classic from his 1961 film, “Blue Hawaii.”
