ABC News anchor David Muir cut into scheduled programming Monday night with a breaking development from the White House, noting new tariffs ordered by President Donald Trump are set to take effect at midnight.
The ABC host told viewers the president is imposing a 100% tariff on all chips and semiconductors entering the U.S., a move that could drive up the price of electronics, appliances, and vehicles.
“So what will this mean for the cost of electronics here in America?” Muir, who trashed NBC late last month, asked, before introducing senior correspondent Mary Bruce. It comes after podcaster Joe Rogan revealed a bombshell new theory about the 2024 Trump assassination attempt.
Bruce reported from the Oval Office, where Trump appeared alongside Apple CEO Tim Cook to announce the tech giant’s plan to invest an additional $100 billion in U.S. manufacturing, building on a $500 billion pledge made in February.
“They’re coming home,” Trump declared, describing the expansion as proof that his economic plan is paying off.
Apple said it will use U.S.-made glass from Kentucky for iPhones and Apple Watches, though the company stopped short of meeting Trump’s long-standing demand that iPhones be entirely produced in America.
“This is a significant step toward the ultimate goal of ensuring that iPhones sold in the United States of America also are made in America,” Trump said.
Trump emphasized that companies producing or committing to produce in the U.S. will avoid certain taxes.
“If you’re building in the United States or have committed to build in the United States, there will be no charge,” he said.
