Channing Dungey recently spoke about the possibility of The Penguin Season 2 and whether the story could continue beyond its first season. In a new interview, she hinted at creative discussions taking place while noting that another major project currently has Matt Reeves’ full attention.

Latest update on The Penguin Season 2

Variety reports that Warner Bros. Television Group chairman/CEO Channing Dungey confirmed a second season of The Penguin is possible but not currently in active development. “The main focus right now for Matt [Reeves] is getting the movie underway… it’s absolutely possible.”

He continued, “We want to do it if it’s right… But there’s nothing specific to share at the moment,” she said. The limited series, which earned 24 nominations at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, is Warner Bros. TV’s most-nominated program this year.

Dungey explained that Reeves and showrunner Lauren LeFranc have discussed potential ideas for continuing the universe but emphasized that progress will depend on timing and creative alignment. Production on The Batman Part II is currently Reeves’ priority, with the sequel expected to release in 2028. Any decision on The Penguin Season 2 will follow that film’s completion.

The Penguin was one of several Warner Bros. TV productions recognized at the Emmys, alongside The Pitt (13 nominations), Shrinking (7 nominations), Abbott Elementary (6 nominations), The Voice (5 nominations), Presumed Innocent (4 nominations), and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage (1 nomination). In total, Warner Bros. TV Group secured 60 nominations, the most of any traditional studio in 2025.

Discussing The Pitt, Dungey confirmed Season 2 is in production and expected to return “at the top of the year.” She also addressed Presumed Innocent, which is moving into pre-production for Season 2 as an anthology series based on Jo Murray’s debut legal thriller Dissection of a Murder.

Upcoming Warner Bros. TV projects include Peacemaker Season 2 (August 21, 2025), It: Welcome to Derry (October 2025), and an untitled college comedy from Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses starring Steve Carell (2026). The Harry Potter series remains in production but will not be ready until the Emmy cycle following next year’s awards.
