AUSTIN, Texas — The Coupland Dancehall is closing its doors after 120 years of providing a space for entertainment just 30 miles northeast of Austin.
The dancehall announced the closure in a Facebook post on Monday.
Coupland’s doors will close on Oct. 11. There was no official reason given for the closing. Abbey Road, the owner of Coupland, told country music news outlet Saving Country Music that the music venue had been battling dwindling revenue and the challenges of running a music venue that pushed her to donate the dancehall to a nonprofit.
The dancehall has been a staple in Texas music for decades and has hosted some of the biggest names in the history of the Lone Star State, including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Hayes Carll, Pat Green and Kevin Fowler.
“My main focus is to make sure we could honor the legacy of this dance hall. And we’re being able to do that by putting together some really awesome shows over the next 10 weeks,” Road told Saving Country Music.
Road purchased the building back in 2016.
To say farewell, the dancehall announced a “farewell season.” From Aug. 9 to Oct. 11, Coupland will celebrate the legacy with more shows, pictures on social media for customers and special guests. The dancehall is calling it “The Last Call.”
Tickets to the final shows can be purchased here.
