Netflix‘s upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series has received an update regarding new details about its potential production start date and characters. This comes after over four months since the project was officially announced by the streamer.
What’s the latest Scooby-Doo news?
According to What’s on Netflix, the live-action Scooby-Doo show will reportedly draw inspiration from one of the streamer’s popular coming-of-age sci-fi shows. The outlet claimed that the creative team is aiming to capture the same tone as Stranger Things. The team is also looking to cast young actors around the ages of 14 to 17 to portray the leading characters, teasing the show’s direction to introduce younger versions of Fred, Daphne, Scooby, Shaggy, and Velma. Should this be proven, this would mark the first time that the Scooby-Doo gang will be portrayed as teenagers in live-action.
In addition, it is also being rumored that production on the live-action TV adaptation might begin during the first quarter of 2026. Based on the characters from Hanna-Barbera, the series hails from showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who are also executive producing through their production company Midnight Radio. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, André Nemec, and Jeff Pinkner are also set as executive producers. At the moment, the project has no release date and cast members attached to it yet.
“It is a modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog. During their final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder,” reads the official synopsis. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever-so-handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
