Music legend Diana Ross has withdrawn from a major performance aboard Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas cruise ship.
The 81-year-old superstar has raised alarm among fans regarding her well-being following the abrupt cancellation.
The mother-of-five was set to be the main attraction for a three-day celebration voyage departing August 20 and had been designated as the vessel’s official godmother.
However, in an unexpected development, her representatives announced on Tuesday (August 12) that Ross would not be participating in the cruise.
The singer’s spokesperson informed People magazine: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Diana Ross will be unable to appear.”
Additional information has not been provided, prompting supporters to wonder about her health status just weeks following her spectacular performance at the Henley Festival.
Ross was meant to anchor the festivities for the Star of the Seas – a cutting-edge vessel joining Royal Caribbean’s collection, featuring a special christening ceremony and main stage show.
The voyage, departing from Port Canaveral, Florida and sailing to Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas, was anticipated to be among the most significant entertainment debuts at sea.
Royal Caribbean has subsequently announced they are seeking a replacement godmother, although Ross’ withdrawal has undoubtedly created a challenging void for the succeeding performer to fill. The cruise line revealed in a statement: “We are disappointed that Diana Ross is unable to join us to be godmother of Star of the Seas.”
They confirmed that arrangements have been finalized to christen the new godmother, which will be revealed “soon.”

Back in June, Ross had even extended invitations to her family to accompany her on the Royal Caribbean voyage before her unexpected pullout. She declared in a press release at the time: “I am truly honored to join the Royal Caribbean family.
“Having spent years creating beautiful music and memories and bringing people together from all over the world, this feels like a perfect continuation of my journey as godmother of Star of the Seas.”
Royal Caribbean president and CEO Michael Bayley also commended her choice, calling her a “true icon” and the ideal figure to embody the brand’s festive spirit.
Despite her withdrawal, Ross has assured supporters that she will still embark on her Beautiful Love U. S tour, which will launch on August 16 in Saratoga, California.
She’s scheduled to perform in Newark, Atlantic City, St. Louis, Lincoln among others before concluding in Palm Springs on December 13. Over the weekend, Ross posted to Instagram to announce the complete schedule of dates online.
Ross posted: “It’s good to be back home. The Beautiful Love Tour is coming to cities across the US for unforgettable nights filled with music, memories, and joy.
“The tour starts a week from today, on August 16th at the @mountainwinery in Saratoga, CA. Come join the love celebration.”
The artist also shared some insights into her self-care routine in her 80s during an interview with People in June, emphasizing that health and family are her main priorities. She revealed to the publication: “I like staying busy because I love what I do, it keeps me grounded.
“I’m swimming a lot lately to stay flexible. I must get my sleep, which is important to me. I do my best to eat well, but I do like Häagen-Dazs ice cream.”
