Taylor Swift fans are starting to realize her new album release date correlates with another special occasion in Hollywood.
The Grammy Award-winning singer has officially set Oct. 3 as the release date for her upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl. On Wednesday night, she wrote to X, formerly Twitter, “And, baby, that’s show business for you. New album, The Life of a Showgirl. Out October 3 Album Producers: Max Martin, Shellback, and Taylor Swift.”
After relishing in the first look at the album cover and setlist, fans had noticed the date had already been taken by the hit 2004 comedy film Mean Girls, which stars Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams.
Mean Girls Day is celebrated annually on Oct. 3. The day was chosen based on a line from the movie where Cady Heron, Lindsay’s character, is asked by her crush Aaron Samuels, portrayed by Jonathan Bennett, what day it is. She replied, “It’s October 3rd.”
Now, the film’s enthusiasts use that date to commemorate the iconic film by wearing pink, quoting different scenes and engaging in related activities.
Along with unveiling the date, she also revealed the album cover, which features Taylor wearing a crystal-embellished bustier as her body is submerged in water, with just her face coming above the surface.
Another photo revealed the names of the 12 songs that will appear on the album. Sabrina Carpenter, who opened for the singer on her infamous Eras tour, is the only other artist featured as a collaborator.
One fan also pointed out how the correlation relates to Sabrina’s Broadway debut in the Mean Girls musical in March of 2020. They wrote, “sabrina being in mean girls on bway, the release date being oct 3, ugh it really is my new favourite day.”
