The event has grown rapidly, starting with 35 Black-owned businesses on Temple Street Plaza in 2022, to more than 150 businesses on the Green in 2023, to 200 businesses and about 10,000 attendees last year, Mayor Justin Elicker said at an event promoting the festival.
The festival was created by Aaron “Y-A” Rogers and Rashad “Snacks” Johnson — Grammy-winning producers who also co-founded The Breed Entertainment — and is put on in conjunction with the city. They launched the event with former city Director of Cultural Affairs Adriane Jefferson.
