Donnie Wahlberg‘s fans are rallying around the actor to wish him a happy 56th birthday, just two weeks after the actor shared the news of a fan’s devastating death.
Early in the morning of Sunday, August 17, “Happy Birthday Donnie” was trending on X, filled with birthday wishes for the New Kids on the Block singer, who turned 56 — and celebrated online by sharing a rare throwback photo of him as a child.
“Dearest Blockheads, This little guy loves you! ❤️,” he captioned the X post, which featured a sepia-toned snap from when he was just a kid. “Thank you for another year of amazing memories with you!”
Going above and beyond, Wahlberg — who has a deep connection to his fan base — took the time on his own special day to post well wishes to his followers who share his own birthday.
Jenny McCarthy, who has been married to the Blue Bloods actor since 2014, also feted her husband by bringing out a birthday cake — filled with lighted candles — as she sang “Happy Birthday.” Wahlberg posted the clip to his Instagram Story.
While Wahlberg’s 56th birthday was certainly a celebratory occasion, he — and the entire NKOTB fandom — suffered a tragic loss earlier this month. On August 3, the Sixth Sense actor penned a beautiful tribute to a late fan named Kelly.
“Kelly was a Blockhead, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend and more. I got to know Kelly pretty well over the last few years, though she’s been around for a long time,” the “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” singer wrote via Instagram at the time, alongside a photo of him and Kelly hugging tightly. “I got to know her family over the last few days, though I hope to know them for a long time.”
“She will be missed. She will be remembered. She will be celebrated,” Wahlberg continued. “It hurts, a lot, and it’s going to hurt for a long time. But I know that I will see that smile, and that gorgeous red hair, again.”
