‘The Traitors’ Announces Non-Celebrity Season Coming to NBC originally appeared on Parade.
The TraitorsUSfans are about to have plenty more deception in their future! The hit reality series will be putting an additional season on NBC, set to film in the spring, with a cast filled entirely with civilian (i.e., non-celebrity) contestants.
The announcement was made by Emmy-winning Traitors host Alan Cumming at the inaugural Televerse 2025 conference during “The Traitors: Reality Competition Program Nominee FYC Panel” at the JW Marriott Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. Also in attendance were reality star standouts from the first three seasons of the Peacock series, including Cirie Fields, Phaedra Parks, Kate Chastain, Bob the Drag Queen and Boston Rob Mariano.
“The money will mean more to them,” Cumming said about the civilian casting choice. “I’m pretty excited about it. I think it’s going to be a hoot.” Cumming will also be lending his hosting duties (and hopefully his wardrobe of incredible outfits) to the new season.
“We’re excited to bring along The Traitors’ highly addictive fan base as we discover the next generation of legendary gamers and schemers,” said Sharon Vuong, executive vice president of unscripted programming, NBCUniversal Entertainment, in a statement. “With our resident host and gameplay master of ceremonies, Alan Cumming, on board to introduce complete strangers to new epic missions and twisted gameplay, this new version for NBC offers a unique opportunity for the cast and audience to meet each other for the first time and we know it will be incredible to watch.”
For superfans of The Traitors, going to a civilian-only format shouldn’t be a massive shift. When the series initially arrived on the scene in the U.K. in 2023, it featured a cast of “regular people,” and immediately hooked British audiences, becoming one of the most popular reality shows. Indeed, many non-American versions of The Traitors – a few of which are currently available on Peacock – use a handful of celebs at the most, instead relying on the cast and game itself as the hook.
The Traitors US, however, has shifted away from that format. When the first season aired, it utilized a cast of half civilians and half celebrities/reality stars. But the very next year, the show opted to do away with civilians entirely, filling the cast entirely with big names. And it’s no coincidence that that’s when the show caught fire, becoming one of the most talked-about shows of the past few years. Given how much fans of The Real Housewives, Survivor and Big Brother have been drawn to The Traitors from its crossover casting, it will be intriguing to see how many of them will tune in for a non-celebrity version.
“We’re thrilled to be working with NBC to open up the experience to a new group of civilian players, whose stories and strategies will make the gameplay even more unpredictable – and, we hope, even more addictive for viewers,” Stephen Lambert, CEO of Studio Lambert, the producers of both the Peacock and NBC versions, said in a statement.
This new civilian season of The Traitors will come on the tail end of Season 4 of the celebrity version. The cast, announced in July, features a number of big names from the world of reality TV, in addition to Olympic figure skaters Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski, as well as comedians Michael Rapaport and Ron Funches. The series has already been renewed for a fifth season.
Casting is currently open for The Traitors US’s civilian season until March 10, 2026. The new season is expected to film in the spring.
