The Rolling Stones are back on Gen Z’s mood boards thanks to a clever throwback and a juicy TV moment that sent their hit “Wild Horses” galloping up trend charts again.
On Sunday, August 17, the rock veterans dropped a TikTok that felt like a blast from the past. A text overlay read, “POV: It’s 1969 in Alabama. After 3 intense days in the studio, you hear ‘Wild Horses’ played back for the very first time…” set against footage that looked like archival film. The caption doubled down on the nostalgia: “First played back in ’69 at Muscle Shoals 🎶 Still breaking hearts in 2025…Wild Horses run forever 🐎✨.”
The timing couldn’t have been better. Nearly two weeks earlier, The Summer I Turned Pretty’s long-awaited “peach scene” finally hit screens. In Season 3, Episode 5 of the coming-of-age romantic drama — based on Jenny Han’s bestselling trilogy — Belly (played by Lola Tung) takes a slow, juice-dripping bite of a peach as ex-love Conrad (Christopher Briney) watches, transfixed. With “Wild Horses” swelling in the background, he steps forward to wipe her chin, and the moment instantly joined the ranks of iconic teen-TV history.
It didn’t take long for X (formerly Twitter) to light up with reactions.
“Oh my goddd the peach scene! so intimate, the sun in the back, the field, the close ups and the wild horses couldn’t drag me away,” one user wrote.
“THE PEACH SCENE WAS BETTER THAN I WAS EXPECTING OH MY GOD THIS IS CINEMA,” another declared.
“I can’t get over wild horses playing during the peach scene im crying I can’t,” a third chimed in.
“The peach scene to wild horses….. amazing. brilliant. beautiful. astounding,” someone else said.
Han — who not only penned the bestselling novels but also serves as the series’ creator, co-showrunner and director of the peach episode — leaned into the chaos, sharing a cheeky behind-the-scenes snap of Tung holding a peach. “Team Conrad you up??” she captioned the Instagram post on August 6.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old actress told reporters she loves the passionate fan debate around the Belly–Jeremiah–Conrad triangle. “It’s great—it’s what you’re supposed to feel,” she said, adding, “I think there should be a back and forth sort of pull.”
And while the peach scene may be the latest cultural reset, it’s not the first time “Wild Horses” has stolen a moment on screen. The Sundays’ cover turned up in Fear (1996) and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1999), while the Stones’ version has played in Parks and Recreation, BoJack Horseman, and Billions.
