The Great British Bake Off is set to premiere in the U.K. on Tuesday, September 2.
Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith, Noel Fielding, and Alison Hammond confirmed the news in a joint Instagram post.
Netflix hasn’t formally announced the U.S. premiere date, but teased that the “release date will be served up right here very soon.”
Time to cancel your Friday plans for the next *checks calendar* 10 weeks—or at least starting in early September. The Great British Bake Off has just confirmed the season 13 premiere date, and we have only a few weeks left before Paul Hollywood is back dishing out Hollywood handshakes and Prue Leith is ruling on soggy bottoms.
“Bake Off is back,” Paul, Prue, Noel Fielding, and Alison Hammond announced in a joint post with the official Bake Off Instagram account. “Tuesday 2nd September. 8pm. Channel 4. #GBBO.” Told ya! Not a drill! The new collection is just a few weeks out. While the U.K. will see the show live that Tuesday, the premiere is expected to arrive on Netflix in the U.S. shortly after, likely on Friday, September 5. In an official statement, though, the streaming platform teased that the “release date will be served up right here very soon.” Do with that what you will.
Naturally, fans immediately freaked out. “As an American, you have no idea how badly I need this,” one person joked. “Every fall this show is a balm for whatever fresh horrors are going on in the US. Counting down! 🥧🍰” another agreed.
“The way my entire body just relaxed as I scrolled and heard this theme song 😭😭😭,” someone else wrote. “I needed this! My therapy. 💞🎂Can’t wait for it to hit the US.”
Others were just excited to see the GBBO core four back together. “🙌🙌 Noel and Alison are the best duo PLEASE DONT EVER CHANGE IT,” one fan declared. “Is Prue coming back? Yay,” another said.
So… what can we expect from Collection 13? According to Netflix, 12 new competitors—ranging in age from 23 to 59— are stepping into the tent.
“Among them: a scientist, an engineer, and a medical student who’re sure to bring a lot of brainpower to their bakes,” the statement reads. “Also entering the tent is an amateur drag king, a pickled food fanatic, two hairdressers, and a blue belt in jiujitsu.”
I, for one, am SAT, and already know I’ll be breaking out the flour and KitchenAid halfway through episode one.
