Joanna Gaines Teases Big Change to Her Beloved Show originally appeared on Parade.
Home design expert Joanna Gaines teased that fans can expect something different from one of her many beloved shows.
TV Insider reported that Joanna appeared on the April 19 episode of The TODAY Show to talk about her home life with her husband, Chip Gaines,and their upcoming projects. During the interview, Joanna said she and her husband “are wrapping up a project out of state.” She then revealed that said project was a new version of Fixer Upper, which ended its five-season run in 2018. The original series focused on the couple giving home makeovers to residents of their small town, Waco, Texas.
“Our first out-of-state Fixer Upper. Never done that before. So we’re learning new challenges. We’re learning a lot. But we’re wrapping that up within the next month and it’ll air later this year. So we’re really excited about that,” said Joanna during the interview.
Following the 2013 premiere of Fixer Upper on HGTV, Chip and Joanna have filmed several other series, including Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines, Fixer Upper: Welcome Home, and Mini Reni, per IMDb. Joanna is also debuting her upcoming cooking series, Magnolia Table: At the Farm, on September 7, as reported by TV Insider.
During a July 2025 interview on TODAY’s Making Space with Hoda Kotb, Joanna shared how she unintentionally became a famous interior designer. The Magnolia Home founder said she did not go to school for home design. Instead, she and her husband opened their boutique, Magnolia Market, in 2003, the year they got married. She said that her customers would ask her to decorate their homes.
“It was like candles and home decor. Even if you saw the home decor, then, I can’t, it was hilarious. People would come into the shop and ask, ‘Can you help decorate my home?'” said Joanna during the interview.
She said the situation made her nervous because she didn’t have prior design experience. The mother of five said, however, that she was able to please her clients by asking them how they wanted their home to feel.
In addition, she said her design abilities caught the attention of HGTV when her friend sent her “before and after” pictures of her home renovation “to this famous blogger.”
