SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Smith Entertainment Group announced plans to bring a new indoor music venue to downtown Salt Lake City.

The venue will be developed in partnership with Live Nation Entertainment. Once completed, the 6,000-capacity indoor venue is expected to host about 200 events annually, including 100 concerts. The remaining events will be made up of family-entertainment shows, such as choirs.

“When Ash and I took over and started Smith Entertainment Group with our partners, the idea was hopefully to bring some cool things to Utah in the forms of wins and championships but also everything else that we lift around,” said Ryan Smith, Chairman and CEO of SEG. “To watch a couple of these pages unfold – last year, we were sitting here with the announcement of the NHL. The impact of the NHL in Utah, but more specifically in downtown Salt Lake, is something everyday we see.”

Plans for the venue are currently under development and the exact location of the venue has yet to be finalized. However, SEG confirmed the venue will be part of the new culture and entertainment district on the blocks directly east of the Delta Center. Demolition of the area will likely begin in 2027 with phased plans over the next several years.

The goal of adding a new music venue is fill what Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino called “a sweet spot” for music artists looking for a mid-size indoor option in contrast to the roughly 19,000-capacity Delta Center.

“It opens up a whole new avenue of artists from the James Taylor, the early Gracie Abrams that played at the MGM, to the K-Pop artists, to the family [shows]. Every Post Malone starts playing those venues, so you want to be part of that,” said Rapino.

Smith estimated the music venue will help bring roughly a million new people a year into downtown Salt Lake City, if SEG and Live Nation is able to activate the entertainment district the way they plan to.
