Spotify's New Feature Lets You Mix Your Playlists Like a DJ

Spotify’s latest feature drop is for aspiring DJs: you can now add and customize transitions between tracks on your playlists. “Mix,” which is in beta, lets users blend songs on playlists they’ve created to minimize awkward pauses or simply get creative with the flow from song to song.

Audio mixing is the newest upgrade from Spotify aimed at letting users customize their listening experience. Other recently rolled out features include the ability to select the genre of Discover Weekly, snooze tracks, and verbally interact with the AI DJ. (Apple Music has a similar AI DJ feature, AutoMix, coming with iOS 26.)

Mix is rolling out now to eligible Premium subscribers, so you may not see the feature immediately. Make sure that your Spotify app is updated.

How to use Spotify’s new Mix feature

To add custom transitions, open a playlist (or create one) and tap the Mix button on the top toolbar. Choose Auto to have Spotify blend for you or tap to adjust specific settings for volume, EQ, and effects. You can also use waveform and beat data to optimize the exact spot in each track to add your transitions. Preset styles include Fade and Rise. Once you’ve finished your selections, hit Save.

What do you think so far?

You can then toggle the mixed version of your playlist on and off by pressing the Mix button. Mixed playlists can be shared, or you can invite other subscribers to collaborate. Spotify also allows you to create cover art with stickers and labels available only for mixed playlists.

Spotify notes that mixing works best with music genres produced for smooth transitions, like house and techno. When you use the Mix feature, Spotify will automatically show the key and beats per minute (BPM) for each track, so you can see songs with similar tempos and Camelot keys and quickly reorder them for the most natural-sounding flow.
