TYLER, Texas (KETK) — Tommi Jo, an East Texas songwriter, is set to release her first album titled “Fairy Tales,” inspired by her journey through music and personal loss.
Growing up in a musical family, Tommi Jo was surrounded by music, which fueled her passion for songwriting. Despite setbacks in her career, she found renewed inspiration after the passing of her father in August 2022, leading her to write the song ‘Neverland.’
“I’m a songwriter at heart; that is my true passion out of everything I do,” Tommi Jo said, reflecting on her lifelong dedication to music.

Tommi Jo’s early exposure to music came from her family, who all played and encouraged her love of music. “There’s a lot of noise in my house, growing up,” she recalled, which led her to write her first song.
In high school, fellow songwriter John Da-Four played a significant role in her development as a musician, giving her weekly songwriting assignments and encouraging her craft.
After graduating with a music business degree in 2016, Tommi Jo faced challenges in the music industry, leading to a period of complacency and doubt about her career path.
The sudden death of her father in 2022 was a turning point, reigniting her passion for music and songwriting. “That was kind of the catalyst of me getting back into doing music again,” she explained.

Her song ‘Neverland’ became a way to process her grief and find hope. “I had this hope that my dad got sick and that he would get better and it didn’t work out that way,” she said, describing the emotional release she felt after writing the song.
Tommi Jo advises aspiring musicians to persevere despite rejection. “Sounds super cheesy, but never give up. You’re going to face rejection… if you’re getting no’s, that means you’re probably doing something right. So just keep going and eventually there will be a yes,” she encouraged.
