Mac DeMarco has shared a melancholic new song called ‘Phantom’. Check it out below.

The track, released today (August 20), marks the third and final preview of the songwriter’s forthcoming album, ‘Guitar’.

Throughout, the song captures a warm, yet lovelorn feeling. It sees DeMarco strip things back and lay his emotions out bare – calling out for someone or something that he’s lost.

“Sure, I’d give it up / Just for one more chance to say goodnight / Oh, my love, was it real or just fantasy? / Your phantom sits with me,” he sings in the blues-inspired opening verse.

Check it out in full below.

The song comes on the heels of the lead single ‘Home’, which seems to capture the overall mood of the new album, and also as a follow up to the second single, ‘Holy’. The latter was also a meditative track, and arrived last month.

‘Guitar’ was written and recorded entirely in November 2024 at DeMarco’s home in Los Angeles. For the release, the singer-songwriter and guitarist took on all aspects of the creative process, barring the mastering which was done by David Ives. De Marco shot the artwork, showing him and his dog, using tripods, and mixing the record in Canada.

“I think ‘Guitar’ is as close to a true representation of where I’m at in my life today as I can manage to put to paper,” he said, announcing the LP. “I’m happy to share this music, and look forward to playing these songs as many places as I’m able.”

It will be his sixth studio album and the follow-up to both 2023’s ‘Five Easy Hot Dogs’ and the compilation ‘One Wayne G‘. It will arrive on Friday (August 22) via Mac’s Record Label and you can pre-order it here.

DeMarco will be touring around the UK and Europe in November, in between strings of North America and Asia dates. Find UK tickets here and international tickets here.
