Foodies on campus are in for a treat this fall as Bama Dining unveils several new dining options along with other exciting changes, like a brand-new entertainment space next to the newest late-night snack spot.

Who’s Hungry? New Food Options

SocialBites to Open in Lakeside Dining Hall

SocialBites opened in the Lakeside Dining Hall Aug. 14 with a grand opening planned for Sept. 18. The concept features four restaurants – The Original Hot Chicken, Inked Tacos, Flametown Burgers and Pinsa Pizza. This serves as Bama Dining’s late-night option on campus with regular hours 5 p.m.-1 a.m. starting Aug. 20.  

Choolaah Opens in the Student Center

Choolaah is bringing ancient tandoor cooking methods and Indian comfort food to The University of Alabama Student Center. They serve up fresh ingredients in authentic, high-quality dishes. They also offer vegetarian-friendly meals and Halal-certified food options. 

Coach Bus – Built by Students for Students

Be on the lookout this fall for The COACH Bus, a food truck operated by Bama Dining. This double-decker bus will serve up traditional favorites easily taken on-the-go like grilled cheese, smashburgers and fish and chips.

New Vegetarian Friendly VIP Options

Bama Dining worked with student Swastee Regmi to introduce vegetarian-friendly VIP meal options at retail dining locations like Chick-fil-A and Raising Cane’s.

Collaboration with the Common Market

This summer, Bama Dining committed to working with The Common Market to support local farmers and growers in the Southeast. All rice, sweet potatoes, collard greens, frozen blueberries and some apples will be supplied to the dining halls from local growers in Alabama, Georgia and Arkansas. These ingredients can be found in the dining hall marked with new “Locally Grown” identifiers.

Familiar Favorites

Low Tide Poke at Alston Hall

Low Tide Poke replaces the Bistro in Alston Hall with a permanent location. The same poke bowls that you know and love are now located closer to the Quad.

La Mexicana Returns to the Flip Kitchen

La Mexicana, the ever-popular taco truck, will return to the Flip Kitchen as the local restaurant feature in the UA Student Center.

But Wait, There’s More!

New Gaming & Entertainment Area in Lakeside Benefitting the Food Pantry

Adjacent to SocialBites, a dedicated space for gaming and entertainment will be in the mezzanine of Lakeside and will house arcade games, video games, a pool table, a self-playing piano and numerous other entertainment options. Proceeds from game rentals and gameplay will be donated directly to the Student Care & Well-Being on-campus food pantry.

Raising Cane’s Renovation

The Raising Cane’s location inside Paty Hall is currently undergoing renovations and will reopen this fall with a fresh new look. 

New Executive Chefs 

Bama Dining is introducing two new executive chefs – Stanley Harris and Darvin McDaniel. Harris is the new executive chef for Lakeside Dining Hall and McDaniel is the executive chef for all of Bama Dining.
