According to former royal butler Grant Harrold, who spoke with RadarOnline, Prince Philip was said to have made it clear he was happy the wedding was over.
Harrold explained he was part of those who serve the royal family, and attended the day in May 2018. He recalled, “Our tickets permitted us to sit outside, which was perfect, because I saw a lot more than I did when inside for Prince Charles and Camilla’s marriage blessing. The couple had provided picnic bags with shortbread, water, and a royal chocolate coin in a commemorative bag.
“We could see everybody walking in and out and hear the whole service, including the animated and very lengthy sermon by the American bishop Michael Curry.”
He then revealed, “When Prince Philip came out he turned to the Queen and said, ‘Thank f*** that’s over.'”
Prince Philip was often known for his outspoken views, and was also reportedly outraged when Meghan and Harry made the decision to step back from being working royals in 2020.
He was alleged to have asked, “What the hell are they playing at?” when the news was shared. Allegedly, Prince Philip viewed their move as a sign of disrespect towards Queen Elizabeth II.
Sources suggest the late Queen was largely in the dark about the couple’s intentions, which were fully addressed during a family meeting at Sandringham, now referred to as the Sandringham Summit.
