Snow White was frankly a disaster, and it wasn’t the fault of Rachel Zegler. Despite what Disney execs would love you to believe, as they tried their damnedest to get her to not speak out about Palestine. Obviously, a lot of the criticism and disinterest came levied at Gal Gadot – who was promoting the film at the intersection of a huge TikTok trend discussing her frequently horrific line readings in various films. “Kal-El no”, “Enough champagne to fill the Nile!” – you saw it, you cringed, it was an era. Snow White, and Gal Gadot giving a widely panned wooden performance as the Wicked Queen was one of the biggest hated points of the movie – whereas her co-star Rachel Zegler got a lot of praise. As she currently continues to do on the West End in Evita. Now, Gal Gadot has spoken out explaining the reason she believes Snow White flopped.
She blames it all on ‘pressure’
Gal Gadot recently appeared on The A Talks, a Channel Keshet 12 programme which sees celebrities interviewed by interviewees who are on the autism spectrum. The rules are that no question or topic are off limits, which creates quite candid discussions. Gal Gadot was asked how she felt about the fact Snow White flopped, and she responded by saying “First of all, I have to say that I really enjoyed filming this movie.”

She was asked about her dynamic with Rachel Zegler. Gal Gadot is Israeli and both her and Zegler have been outspoken on different perspectives regarding Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Gadot continued: “I even enjoyed working with Rachel Zegler. We laughed, we talked, and it was fun. I was sure that this movie was going to be a huge success, and then October 7 happened, and what’s happening in all kinds of industries, and also in Hollywood, is that there’s a lot of pressure on celebrities to speak out against Israel.
“You can always explain and try to give people in the world a context about what’s happening and what the reality is here, but in the end, people decide for themselves. I was disappointed that the movie was greatly affected by that and didn’t do well at the box office.”
She did not comment on the bad reaction to her performance, especially her rather diabolical musical number which does feature some of the worst vocals I’ve ever heard in a motion picture musical. She made Pierce Brosnan in Mamma Mia sound like Pavarotti.
Since this interview, Gal Gadot has posted on Instagram and backtracked some of what she said, claiming it was in the moment and coming from an emotional place. Gadot wrote yesterday “I was honoured to join an extraordinary interview with inspiring interviewers, whose questions go straight to the heart. Sometimes we respond to questions from an emotional place.
“When the film came out, I felt that those who are against Israel criticised me in a very personal, almost visceral way. They saw me first and foremost as an Israeli, not as an actress. That’s the perspective I spoke from when I answered the question.
“Of course, the film didn’t fail solely because of external pressures. There are many factors that determine why a film succeeds or fails, and success is never guaranteed.”
