Austin Butler took a meticulous approach to portraying his character in the upcoming movie, Caught Stealing, with a particular focus on the butt. Preparing to play Hank, a former athlete turned bartender, Butler focused not only on overall fitness but also on glute strength.

Austin Butler talks about his routine for thick butt

Austin Butler has shared the unusual steps he took to prepare his body and butt for his upcoming role in Caught Stealing. The 34-year-old actor plays Hank, who used to be a baseball player but now works as a bartender. He said the film demanded a very specific look.

Butler revealed in his Men’s Health profile that director Darren Aronofsky had a very specific vision for how Hank should look. To meet those expectations, Butler said Aronofsky regularly sent him photos of athletes to emphasize the desired result. He said, “I actually have a whole section of just baseball players’ asses that [Aronofsky] would send me. He was like, ‘Look how thick they are!’”

Butler worked with celebrity trainer Beth Lewis, who designed a program focused on lower-body intensity. His regimen included “ton of hip thrusters,” stability work with a BOSU ball, and one-arm kettlebell movements. At the same time, Aronofsky wanted Hank to appear like someone living with unhealthy habits, which meant Butler had to bulk up with pizzas and beers.

The physical changes were substantial. At the start of his training, Butler weighed 150 pounds. Over six months, his weight increased to 185 pounds. He admitted, “I’ve got a whole section of Celine pants that I just can’t even wear anymore.”

Though alcohol was not a natural part of his lifestyle, Butler committed to drinking for the role. He said, “Drinking has never been my thing. I don’t like the way it makes me feel.”
