Idris Elba, Catherine O’Hara, and Channing Tatum are set to be celebrated in Canada.
The trio join the list of creatives who will be honored at the Toronto International Film Festival’s Tribute Awards gala on Sept. 7.

Elba will receive the TIFF Tribute Award in Impact Media; Tatum is slated to be honored with the TIFF Tribute Performer Award; and O’Hara will receive the TIFF Norman Jewison Career Achievement Award. Also recognized at the ceremony taking place at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel will be Kazu Hiro, the Oscar–winning prosthetic makeup designer, who will be presented with the TIFF Variety Artisan Award. Nina Hoss, acclaimed German actor, will be honored with a TIFF Tribute Performer Award and filmmakers Jafar Panahi and Zacharias Kunuk will be given TIFF Special Tribute Awards.
These seven honorees will join the previously announced recipients: Guillermo del Toro, Jodie Foster, Hikari, and Lee Byung‑hun. Brendan Fraser will serve as the ceremony’s honorary chair.
“The 2025 Tribute Award honorees represent the very best of what cinema can achieve,” said Cameron Bailey, CEO of TIFF. “Hailing from different corners of the world, Idris Elba, Kazu Hiro, Nina Hoss, Zacharias Kunuk, Catherine O’Hara, Jafar Panahi and Channing Tatum have created work that moves us, challenges us, and expands our understanding of the human experience.”
At this year’s festival, Elba returns with his directorial debut of his short film Dust to Dreams, starring Seal. Hiro will attend for his work transforming Dwayne Johnson in The Smashing Machine. Hoss will be there for the World Premiere of Hedda and Tatum for his performance in Derek Cianfrance’s Roofman. Panahi will introduce It Was Just an Accident, a Palme d’Or–winning film and Kunuk arrives for Uiksaringitara (Wrong Husband).
O’Hara, who is currently Emmy‑nominated for The Studio, will accept the TIFF Norman Jewison Career Achievement Award, which “recognizes Canadians in the film industry who have made a global impact.”
The 50th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival runs Sept. 4-14.
