Over the past few weeks, the fate of The Howard Stern Show has been up in the air as reports – and President Donald Trump – have suggested the radio host’s career is coming to an end.
Before the 71-year-old broadcaster addresses the “cancellation” rumors, an insider has revealed what’s really going on behind the scenes.
According to The Daily Mail, the whole “quitting” scenario was an inside job. An insider claimed the cast and crew had made up the “desperate hoax” to “try and make Stern relevant again.”
“They’re desperately trying to make this thing to go viral to try to boost his numbers for his return on September 2,” the source said.
“His numbers are down so low that they’re desperately trying to make him relevant and get people to tune in to see what he’s going to say about getting ‘fired’ from Sirius,” the insider claimed. “It was something they came up with on a viral scale to get people to tune in again.
“The numbers are so pathetic that they don’t know what to do.
The insider claims the reason for the charade points to Stern’s outspoken discontent with Trump voters, who he told he “didn’t want them listening to his show anymore.”
“From what I understand, this [the September 2 segment] is sort of going to be like a mea culpa to get the audience that he alienated back to listening to him, ” the insider added.
The insider claims the truth is “he’s not planning on retiring any time soon.”
The source claimed Howard is keeping his head held high as they report, “Howard anticipates to have a new contract with Sirius and to announce that upon his return to the airwaves on September 2.”

The radio host’s $500 million five-year contract with SiriusXM is set to expire at the end of the year.
He has been with the company since 2006 and has become a fixture within the radio realm, interviewing Hollywood stars like Alec Baldwin, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jerry Seinfeld.
Howard has received high accolades for his show. He has won Billboard’s Nationally Syndicated Air Personality of the Year award eight consecutive times. He was also the first to have the #1 morning radio show in New York City and Los Angeles at the same time.
