Despite the success of his latest album “I’m The Problem,” Morgan Wallen appears to have taken himself out of contention for the 2026 Grammy Awards by not submitting it to the Recording Academy for consideration.
According to an Aug. 19 report from industry insider Hits Daily Double, the performer’s team will not submit him as an artist or songwriter for award consideration at the 68th Grammy Awards.
The event is scheduled to be held in Los Angeles on Feb. 1, 2026.
That said, there are caveats to Wallen’s decision.
Morgan Wallen performs during his One Night at a Time Tour concert at Nissan Stadium on May 2, 2024, in Nashville, where he was arrested less than a month ago for throwing a chair off the rooftop of Chief’s.
The Sneedville, Tennessee native may still earn a nomination if the team behind his pop hit duet ‘Just In Case’ with Tate McRae submits it for Grammy consideration.
While Wallen is also credited as a co-writer on 22 songs from the album, the other songwriters — including John Byron, Jessie Jo Dillon, Ernest, Hardy, Hunter Phelps, Jameson Rodgers, Blake Pendergrass, and more than three dozen others involved in the project — could still submit their work to the Recording Academy for potential nomination.
Could Morgan Wallen, as a solo performer, still potentially receive a 2025 Grammy nomination?
The Grammy nomination process is a multi-tiered one that first requires members of the Recording Academy, including those involved in the creative and technical aspects of recording, to submit recordings and music videos for consideration.
From there, what is essentially a three-month and five-round process ensues that ends with the revelation of the nominees in November.
Because Wallen has removed himself from consideration, Recording Academy regulations preclude other Academy members and voters from essentially doing a “write-in”-style grassroots campaign for him to be nominated.
Morgan Wallen following similar moves by Drake, The Weeknd regarding Grammy snubs
Wallen joins Drake and The Weeknd among artists who have removed themselves from Grammy Awards consideration in recent years.
From 2022 to 2024, The Weeknd boycotted the Grammy ceremony after his “After Hours” album and its mega hit “Blinding Lights” failed to win awards at the 2021 event.

Leading into 2022’s Grammy Awards, Drake asked to have his name withdrawn from contention for best rap performance (for “Way 2 Sexy,” featuring Future and Young Thug) and best rap album (for Certified Lover Boy). The Recording Academy honored those requests.
In a 2021 Instagram stories post, Drake offered the following regarding why artists like himself and The Weeknd decided to pull back from the Recording Academy’s premier event:
“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after. This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up over time and pass on to the generations to come.”
In 2025, The Weeknd made a return to the Grammy Awards stage. Regarding the artist’s performance of “Cry For Me” and “Timeless” alongside Playboy Carti.
Morgan Wallen’s history with the Grammys, other award programs
While all four of Wallen’s solo albums have stayed at the top of Billboard’s album charts for over 40 weeks since 2018. He has never received any Grammy nominations for those releases.
He did receive nominations in 2025 for his collaboration with Post Malone, “I Had Some Help.” The track from Malone’s “F-1 Trillion” album was nominated for Best Country Song and Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
Morgan Wallen’s fourth studio album, “I’m The Problem,” arrives on May 16, 2025.
Wallen’s issues with award programs are not limited to the Grammys. In 2024, when he was named the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year, he was not present to receive the award.
However, in 2023, Wallen received his 11 Billboard Music Awards simultaneously while performing onstage at Atlanta’s Truist Park, where he sang his “One Thing At A Time” album track, ‘’98 Braves.” The song is about the 1998 Braves team, which fell short of reaching the World Series after being defeated by the San Diego Padres in that year’s National League Championship Series.
