Wondering if South Park Season 27 Episode 3 was actually written by AI? The latest episode surprised fans when Randy returned to Tegridy Farms and teamed up with ChatGPT. Speculation quickly spread about whether AI actually wrote the script or if it was just another running joke.

Here’s the truth about who wrote the episode, how the AI joke resurfaced, and why fans are debating its impact.

Was South Park Season 27 Episode 3 written by AI?

South Park Season 27 Episode 3, “Sickofancy,” was not written by AI.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone wrote the script, while the episode’s recurring ChatGPT gag sparked speculation about AI involvement. The credits joke continues a bit from Season 26 Episode 4, “Deep Learning,” where ChatGPT wrote part of the episode as a meta-joke.

Reports confirm South Park does not use AI to write episodes. In Season 26, ChatGPT appeared only as a parody, with credits humorously reading “Written by Trey Parker and ChatGPT.” A resurfaced screenshot of that credit misled some fans into thinking Season 27, Episode 3 was also AI-generated. Posts online claimed, “Plot twist: this episode was written by ChatGPT, too,” while others criticized the episode’s humor and structure.

Season 27, Episode 3 continues the satirical use of AI in the storyline rather than in production. The plot follows Randy Marsh at Tegridy Farms as he turns to ChatGPT for advice amid ICE raids and collapsing schemes. The show mocks AI’s overly agreeable tone, echoing concerns raised by OpenAI about sycophantic chatbot behavior. Towelie also returns, joining Randy in spiraling into tech-bro antics and buzzword-driven “innovation.”

The episode extends South Park’s tradition of lampooning contemporary issues with a quick production turnaround. It satirizes both AI culture and political figures, including Donald Trump, with Washington depicted as militarized.

Some viewers called it the “worst episode,” while others praised it as “a cinematic masterpiece.” A fan on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “Only South Park would have Satan run his thing with Trump through ChatGPT… turns out the bot just can’t stop agreeing.”

South Park continues to use AI as a satirical device, not as a writing tool, reinforcing that the scripts remain authored by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
