Sierra Ferrell performs during Hinterland Music Festival in Saint Charles, Iowa, on Aug. 3, 2025.

School is back in session, football is about to kick off and the fall concert calendar is rounding into form.

In Columbia, that means an eclectic blend of country, hip-hop, hard rock and independent tones. While you can’t see and hear it all, you can plan ahead. Here are just 14 shows that excite us in September and beyond.

More: Here’s the Biscuits, Beats and Brews fest lineup for this fall

Sept. 2: Sierra Ferrell on Ninth Street

Sierra Ferrell performs during Hinterland Music Festival in Saint Charles, Iowa, on Aug. 3, 2025.

One of the reigning queens of modern roots music, the West Virginia native’s songs bear a seamless unity between the bold, the quirky, the tender and the deeply felt. Kashus Culpepper shares the bill. Learn more at https://thebluenote.com/event/sierra-ferrell/.

Sept. 3: Tenci and Thanya Iyer

Some of the most artful acts in indie music join forces when Chicago band Tenci and Montreal songwriter Thanya Iyer let their lush, textured sounds occupy the same space and time. Standout local songwriter Rae Fitzgerald shares the bill. Learn more at https://rosemusichall.com/event/tenci-thanya-iyer/.

Sept. 5: American Aquarium at Rose Music Hall

Led by singer BJ Barham, this North Carolina outfit consistently delivers some of the best, most evocative songs at the borderline between country and rock ‘n’ roll. Lance Roark shares the bill. Learn more at https://rosemusichall.com/event/american-aquarium/.

Sept. 12: Leo Kottke at The Blue Note

Dubbed “one of the most influential acoustic guitarists to emerge in the 1960s” by AllMusic, the Georgia-born artist will turn 80 just a day before visiting Columbia, offering six-string enthusiasts a chance to hear one of the true masters as his work only deepens with time. Visit https://thebluenote.com/event/leo-kottke/ for details.

Sept. 13: Paul Cauthen at The Blue Note

D Magazine in Dallas said Cauthen owns “a powerful baritone reminiscent of Johnny Cash’s, except that it’s fuller-bellied and syrupy. Amber tones ooze from the microphone, warm and crystal-clear.” This powerful instrument allows him to scratch an itch for listeners desiring more of a classic country spirit.
