After lifting the trophy of the cooking reality show Celebrity Masterchef, television heartthrob Gaurav Khanna now seems determined to win Bigg Boss 19. He made a grand entry into the house last night, leaving his fans overjoyed. Before entering the show, Gaurav joined Times of India TV for an exclusive chat where he spoke about the reason behind taking up the show, breaking myths and how he is not conscious about carrying any image inside the house. What made you say yes to Bigg Boss, considering it’s such a high pressure reality show?I’ve been part of television for a long time, and my fans know that I always look for something unique, something completely different from what I’ve done before. For instance, when I took up a cookery reality show right after playing Anuj Kapadia in Anupamaa, the nation’s heartthrob, people were surprised and wondered why I chose that. But I enjoy pushing my limits. I believe that stepping into new spaces keeps the artist in me alive and content. It gives me fresh experiences and, in turn, helps me grow and refine my craft. I always believe that no experience goes without changing you in one way or the other. I feel there’s no bigger non-fiction show than Bigg Boss in India. Though I was offered many times prior, I was always busy doing some fiction show here and there. So this time, the stars were probably aligned, and the time was right.People often believe that stars enter Bigg Boss when quality scripts aren’t coming their way— did it happen to you?I know a lot of people say that celebrities come to Bigg Boss to reclaim their glory, to get fame back, or probably they are out of work for some time, then they come. So I just wanted to take a different approach to it. By God’s grace and with the love of my audience, my career is going well and things are moving upwards. So I wanted to do it at a high point. That’s how I am. I like doing things in my own way.Many actors worry about their image before entering the show. Are you concerned about how the audience might perceive you?Not at all. I don’t see any reason to be worried. Whatever people see will be real and human, I’m not a robot, nor am I confined to just the traits of a character I play. I am a human in the end and we all have a rainbow of emotions, some people have a particular colour in higher probability than the others. It’s a mix of emotions. Some feelings show up more often than others, and that’s natural. Everyone has the right to be angry, to get emotional, and to enjoy themselves. So, I’m not concerned about judgments. Even if people comment, it won’t change who I am. I’m comfortable in my own skin, and I have no insecurity about people knowing more about me. If they love me, great. If they dislike me at times, that’s fair too, they have that right.
