Over the years, rumors have swirled about Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton‘s relationship, but it seems there was an early warning sign that they weren’t quite on the same page, according to a Royal expert.
When Meghan was welcomed as the newest addition to the Royal Family after officially marrying Prince Harry in May 2018, there was tremendous anticipation about the couple teaming up with Kate and Prince William for Royal duties.
Before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from their senior Royal roles in 2020, they were frequently spotted alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales, which led to them being dubbed the “Fab Four.”
Their inaugural official appearance as the “Fab Four” took place at the Royal Foundation Forum in February 2018, marking Meghan’s debut official event with her soon-to-be in-laws.
Harry and William took the stage with their wives to enthusiastic applause and participated in a joint discussion about the Royal Foundation’s future.
Commenting on Meghan’s fervent stance at the Royal Foundation, Judi observed, “There was a powerful difference between the more cautious, careful and rather slow-hand-on-the-tiller campaign approach of William and Kate and the warp-speed urgency, drive, passion and energy of Meghan.”
At that time, Kate was expecting and appeared visibly fatigued, according to the expert, who noted that she “looked and sounded tired.”
In stark contrast to Meghan’s dynamic presence, Kate seemed more subdued, “speaking softly and smiling politely.”
Highlighting their contrasting styles, Judi remarked that Meghan “clearly knew how to work and hold a room actively, while Kate, as a royal, had only ever needed to adopt a more passive approach.”
Author Tom Bower also alleged that Meghan’s remarks during the engagement created tension among the foundation’s leadership and fostered an uncomfortable environment between the four royals.
In a passage from Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors, Bower described, “While Meghan spoke, Harry spotted William’s rictus grin… ‘Wedding first’, Harry whispered loudly.”
Although all four individuals chuckled at Harry’s remark, the writer suggests it served as his method of cautioning his then-fiancée against overstepping boundaries.
“We can multi-task,’ Meghan replied to the unexpected interruption.”
