Everything seemed to be good when Brian Burkheiser departed metal band I Prevail in May. However, a recent development concerning his new musical project shows that might not be the case.
The vocalist posted on his personal Instagram account on Monday that his former band is preventing him from releasing music under his new moniker, Scatterbrain. “Due to an unresolved dispute with my former band, I Prevail, I am being blocked from releasing my song ”Phases,” as well as other new music,” wrote Burkheiser. “I’m deeply disappointed, but I’m doing everything I can to move things forward. I want to thank my family, friends, and most importantly, my fans for their unwavering support.”
Burkheiser handled vocal duties for I Prevail ever since the band’s beginning in 2013. In May 2024, the vocalist had to step away from touring due to his battles with a rare disease called Eagle Syndrome. The main symptom is sudden, sharp, nerve-like pain in the jawbone and joint, back of the throat, and base of the tongue. Burkheiser had to undergo multiple surgeries in attempts to deal with his condition. I Prevail then announced in May 2025 that they were parting ways with Burkheiser on a mutual basis.
The vocalist would speak more about his exit in a statement to note that there is “no beef” between the two parties and that “he loves every single one of those guys.”. However, Burkheiser expressed he “didn’t deserve how things went down.” The vocalist went on to clarify, “But it doesn’t mean they are bad people. I did try to communicate more, and I wish that they would’ve talked to me more.”
