LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The ongoing tourism slump in Las Vegas is taking a toll on the city’s entertainment industry, with smaller shows feeling the brunt of the downturn.

According to entertainment insider John Katsilometes, also known as Johnny Kats, while major shows and residencies are maintaining their footing, smaller productions are struggling.

“Some of the shows that we consider that are the second choice, shows that are underneath the kind of the headliners, the residency headliners, the touring shows, those at the sphere are suffering,” said Katsilometes. “And anywhere, you know, it’s usually about, you know, 10 20% of decline in shows that are of that type. We’re talking about some of the Cirque du Soleil shows, Spiegel world shows, the residency productions, and often that level of that number is what they’re they need to turn a profit.”

Katsilometes also noted that the slowdown might be causing delays in new projects. A daytime Bob Marley show at Mandalay Bay, intended to complement a nighttime storytelling experience about reggae in Jamaica, appears to be on hold. Additionally, the future of the space at Luxor, vacated by “America’s Got Talent” last year, remains uncertain.

As the industry awaits a rebound in consumer confidence, a town hall meeting is scheduled for tomorrow to discuss the slump and anticipate the release of new visitor numbers on Friday.
