Hockey Dad have announced a new EP, entitled The Clip. It is set for release next month on Friday, September 12th via their longtime home of Farmer & The Owl. It marks only the second EP in the band’s decade-plus career, having released their debut EP Dreamin’ back in 2014. To coincide with the EP’s announcement, the Wollongong indie-rock duo have shared a new single entitled ‘All Hat No Cattle’; it, along with information on how to digitally pre-save The Clip, can be found below.

In a statement shared to their social media pages, the band described The Clip as “a project that we’ve had bagged and tagged for years”. “We figured it’s time to take off The Clip and let it breathe,” they wrote. Yesterday (August 26th), the band – vocalist/guitarist Zach Stephenson and drummer Billy Fleming – went on triple j‘s Breakfast show to speak with presenters Concetta Caristo and Luka Muller about it, while also premiering ‘All Hat No Cattle’ prior to its release to streaming today.

“We’ve had these songs sitting there, ready to go,” said Fleming. “When we recorded them, we weren’t really feeling them in that moment. I think we’d listened to them too much, and we just needed to ignore them for awhile. They were just going to be collecting dust if we didn’t put them out now, it was like, ‘Why not?’” A music video for ‘All Hat No Cattle’, directed by James Kates, is below.

The new EP arrives just over a year after Rebuild Repeat, Hockey Dad’s fourth studio album. Produced by former Sparkadia frontman Alex Burnett, the album debuted at number 15 on the ARIA Albums Chart and featured triple j favourites such as ‘Still Have Room’, ‘Base Camp’, ‘Safety Pin’ and ‘Wreck And Ruin’. ‘Still Have Room’ came in at number 45 in the triple j Hottest 100 of 2023.

The band are set to headline Rad Presents Live, a mini-festival hosted by their longtime management Rad Music, this weekend in Sydney. Taking over Liberty Hall and its adjacent courts on Saturday, August 30th, the band will perform alongside former tourmates The Belair Lip Bombs, Dust, Shady Nasty, Armlock, Xiao Xiao, Crocodylus, Bridge Dog, Paint, Bimbo and Sevilles. All remaining tickets for the mini-festival are on sale now via Moshtix, and can be purchased here.

The Clip, meanwhile, can be pre-saved on all major streaming platforms by clicking here.
