N.J. wineries uncork Labor Day weekend celebrations with live music, events

New Jersey’s wine country is buzzing with activity as the harvest season hits full stride, offering residents and visitors an array of special events across the state’s more than 60 wineries and vineyards.

The Garden State Wine Growers Association has announced a packed schedule of events for the Labor Day weekend and beyond, featuring everything from live music to food pairings at locations stretching from Union County to Atlantic County.

Here’s a sampling of what’s happening:

Labor Day Weekend Celebration at Old York Cellars Winery

Friday, Aug. 29 to Monday, Sept. 1

80 Old York Rd., Ringoes

Wine tastings, wine and food pairings through the weekend. Live music Friday 6 – 9 p.m., Saturday 1 – 5 p.m., Sunday 1 – 5 p.m. and Labor Day Monday 1 – 5 p.m.

Sips and Sounds at Tomasello Winery

Friday, Aug. 29 and Saturday, Aug. 30

109 Walnut Ave., Cranford, 908-325-6860

Sips and Sounds at Tomasello Winery in Cranford will feature Brian Bauers on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Mike Montemurro on Saturday from 2:30 to 5 p.m.

Live Music and Food Trucks at Working Dog Winery

Friday, Aug. 29-Monday, Sept. 1

610 Perrineville Road, Hightstown, 609-371-6000

Working Dog Winery invites visitors to taste food truck bites, listen to music and sample an array of wines all weekend.

Friday, music will be provided by Joe Vadala from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.; Dani’s Burgers opens at 4 p.m. On Saturday, Rich Cassenti will play from 1 to 5 p.m.

Look for food from Roy’s Deli, GrazeEmUp Charcuterie, SweetNSalty Scoops and Salty Paws Ice Cream starting a 1 p.m.

On Sunday, Rob Silvers will play from 1 to 5 p.m.

Food trucks will include Beach Shack and GrazeEmUp Charcuterie starting at noon.

Festivities continue on Monday from noon to 5 p.m., with music by Erez Lirov from 1 to 5 p.m.; food trucks on site will include LaTradizione Pasta, GrazeEmUp Charcuterie and Dolato Dessert starting at noon.

Labor Day Weekend Live Music Series at Sharrott Winery

Friday, Aug. 29-Monday, Sept. 1

At Sharrott Winery, the music will start at 6 p.m. on Friday with John McNutt.

On Saturday, Leo Breslin will play from 1 to 4 p.m. and Chris Huff will play from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Sunday Brunch Live Music Series will feature Chris Halliwell from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Brian Kmetz from 2 to 5 p.m. Jimmy Dunn will close the weekend music series on Monday. Dunn will play from 1 to 4 p.m.

Sip and Snip at Laurita Winery

Friday, Aug. 29-Monday, Sept. 1

85 Archertown Road, New Egypt

Pick and create a custom bouquet from Laurita Winery’s fields. Starting at the winery, the $40 event includes a short wagon shuttle ride through the vineyard to the garden of flowers where you can mingle and connect with other wine and flower enthusiasts.

When you return to the winery, you receive a glass of wine and a personal cheese plate. Reservations are recommended. Walk-ins accepted based on availability.

Friday outbound shuttle: 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Saturday outbound shuttle: 12 p.m – 7 p.m. Sunday outbound shuttle: 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.

The price of $40 per person includes one vase of flowers in Laurita’s signature Sangria Jar, use of snippers, and complimentary glass of wine and personal cheese upon return to the winery. Under-21 gets complimentary non-alcoholic refreshment. Additional Floral Jars $15. Kid’s under 13, $20, please pay at winery.

Monday’s schedule runs from noon to 6 p.m. and includes free hot dogs for kids 12 and under and Rick Winow on acoustic guitar from 1 to 4 p.m.
