Snoop Dogg is breaking his silence after his comments on LGBTQ+ representation in children’s movies sparked controversy online.

During the Aug. 20 episode of the It’s Giving podcast, the rapper said he was “scared to go to the movies,” specifically children’s movies, due to LGBTQ+ characters being depicted in those films.

Snoop Dogg recalled watching the Disney and Pixar movie Lightyear alongside his grandson. In the movie, one scene shows a female character saying she has a wife, and the couple is briefly shown kissing and later welcoming a baby together.

“They’re like, ‘And she had a baby … with a woman,'” Snoop Dogg said. “Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie, like, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She a woman!’”

“Oh s—,” he recalled thinking in the theater. “I didn’t come here for this s—. I just came to watch the goddamn movie.”

“It threw me for a loop,” he added. “I’m like, ‘What part of the movie was this?’ These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions… I don’t have the answer.”

Nearly two weeks after his comments first circulated online, the musician is finally addressing his behavior, which many commenters online found to be homophobic.

Snoop Dogg addressed the controversy publicly for the first time via a comment under a Hollywood Unlocked Instagram post on Wednesday, Aug. 27.

“I was just caught off guard and had no answer for my grandsons,” Snoop Dogg wrote, adding that “all my gay friends [know] what’s up” and have “been calling me with love 💗.”

“My bad for not knowing the answers for a 6 yr old 😳,” he continued. “Teach me how to learn I’m not perfect 🙌🏿🙏🏾🐾.”

Snoop Dogg is currently a judge on NBC’s The Voice, and it’s rumored that his future on the show is in jeopardy due to his comments.
