Music Is To Blame: On A ‘Sugar High’: Razorlight’s Grunge-Filled New Single

London indie-rock band, Razorlight, have released their latest single, ‘Sugar High’, only a year after their comeback album, ‘Planet Nowhere.’

Known for their hits ‘America’ and ‘Golden Touch’, the band was formed in 2002 and had great success after the release of their self-titled second album ‘Razorlight’. The band sold over 1.5 million copies in the UK and achieved a number one single in the UK charts. Razorlight was a notable British talent of the classic, indie-rock genre. After separating in 2014 the band had slowly begun fading from our musical memories.

After reuniting with the original line-up in 2021, the band is now on the upwards trajectory. In 2024, they unexpectedly released their revival album ‘Planet Nowhere’, their first together since 2008. The album brings together catchy rhythms and youthful energy, reminiscent of the band’s 2000s, alternative-rock sound.

In a Facebook post from the band, lead singer Johnny Borrell, announced ‘Sugar High’ was a “love letter to rock’n’roll.”

Nostalgic of 90s grunge and the raw energy of alternative rock, the song feels brave and daring; one which is certainly atypical of the band’s discography of music.

Quiet and slow dynamics are met with loud, thunderous, cymbal-filled choruses. The heavy, grunge feeling is embraced through the drums, played by Andy Burrows, and it’s a beat which makes you want to bash along on air-drums.

The instrumental juxtapositions are representative of the band’s latest direction and growth, while still resonating with their classic rhythms.

Their revival has also seen them perform throughout summer 2025 at the Isle of Wight festival and other smaller venues such as Plymouth Summer Sessions and Caldicot Castle. Also gaining success from their sold-out UK headline tour, the band has been on a mission to connect old and new fans of the British indie rock scene.

Razorlight’s new chapter has only just commenced and their latest releases make the band’s future look promising.
