Jason Aldean has finally opened up about the “breakdown” he had after the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival eight years ago.
On Oct. 1, 2017, the You Make It Easy singer, 48, was performing in front of a crowd in Las Vegas when a lone gunman opened fire and took the lives of 60 people and injured more than 800 others.
Now, with the country singer recently facing a health scare within his own family, the experience appears to have stirred up long-suppressed emotions about the tragic event, prompting him to make a heartbreaking confession.
While appearing on Dax Shepard’s podcast Armchair Expert, he said, “It was just obviously something that we weren’t prepared for.”
“It was a festival like we’ve done a million times,” the singer mentioned.
The singer and his team weren’t able to leave the area until the following morning.
“We finally got out of there the next afternoon, home and you’re just glad to be home, show up my mom’s crying,” Jason recalled.
“You know, my oldest daughter was in school, freaking out, thinking that somebody was trying to shoot us, so all the details were still kind of coming out.”
A few days later, he had gone right back into his busy schedule, opening for Saturday Night Live. However, he hadn’t forgotten about the tragic event and made sure he put aside some time to return to Las Vegas and make sure his fans were okay.
“Sunday morning, I was on a flight going back to Las Vegas to go to the hospital and see all the victims. That was tough,” he admitted. “People hadn’t recovered from their wounds yet.”
After that, he went right back on the road to finish his They Don’t Know Tour. It wasn’t until two months later that he had gotten to wind down at home, which is when all the traumatic feelings resurfaced.

“All of a sudden at home, we kind of had something else to focus on versus watching that on the news every day,” he said, referencing the birth of his son Memphis.
“I think for me, you know, I kind of had a breakdown in my house one day,” he revealed. “It was after my son was born and just all that heaviness of everything, just getting laid on you.”
Jason ended up having “a moment” at his house, “where I kind of broke down thinking about just all the people that I could have lost, all the people that we did lose as far as fans.”
The singer also admitted he has never gone to therapy despite funding treatment for his crew. Nevertheless, he still gained respite through his inner circle.
“My therapy was me, my wife, my band, all of us that were kind of there,” he concluded. “We all talked about it amongst each other.”
