Good Witch star James Denton will be part of the cast of Hallmark’s A Grand Ole Opry Christmas.
The actor’s new project will premiere as part of Hallmark’s “Countdown to Christmas” holiday programming event.
James previously starred in two holiday movies with his former Good Witch co-star Catherine Bell for Hallmark.
Guess what Good Witch fans? One of the show’s stars is making their way back to the Hallmark universe this Christmas.
Throughout the show’s seven-season run on TV, fans got familiar with actor James Denton portraying Dr. Sam Radford. While the drama eventually ended back in 2021, folks have since had the chance to see him in various movie and TV projects for Hallmark and other networks.
Well, it looks like James is coming back to Hallmark this year, in the form of a new holiday movie airing during the 2025 “Countdown to Christmas“programming event. According to a report from Variety on August 27, the actor is set to join the already stacked ensemble cast of A Grand Ole Opry Christmas. Joining the likes of actors Nikki DeLoach, Kristoffer Polaha, Luke Benward, Sharon Lawrence, and Rob Mayes, Hallmark previously noted superstar Brad Paisley is set to write original music for the film with cameos from musicians Rhett Akins, Mickey Guyton, Megan Moroney, and plenty more.

As far as James’ role in A Grand Ole Opry Christmas, he’s set to play Von Winters, one half of a fictional famed music duo. He’ll also be splitting the part with Luke, who plays the same role in the past.
And for those wondering about the premise of the movie, Hallmark’s website writes it will follow the daughter of a deceased country music star as she goes to accept an honor at the Grand Ole Opry on her late father’s behalf. Worried about returning to a place with emotional memories, she accidentally gets sent back to 1995 to spend time with her dad before his fatal car accident. This all leads to her finding “creative inspiration to finish the song she began decades earlier as a teen and [learning] surprising answers to questions about her father that have followed her for the last three decades.”
Well, we’re certainly excited to see James back on our screens for Hallmark! But fans may also remember this isn’t the only time the actor has been in a Hallmark film since Good Witch ended.
Back in 2023, James and his co-star Catherine Bell (who portrayed Sam’s love interest Cassie Nightingale) reunited as part of an ensemble cast for the Hallmark holiday movie Christmas on Cherry Lane. The film was so successful that they teamed up again in 2024 for the sequel, Happy Holidays from Cherry Lane.
While James hasn’t publicly commented about this piece of exciting news in his acting career, we’re certainly excited to see what’s to come!
