Josh Duhamel is continuing to prepare his “doomsday cabin” for the apocalypse.
The 52-year-old actor has abandoned Hollywood to live off the grid in Minnesota. He invested 15 years constructing his residence “deep in the woods,” where he resides with his wife, Audra Mari, and their 1-year-old son, Shepard. Duhamel’s 11-year-old son Axl, whom he shares with his ex-wife Fergie, also visits the cabin regularly.
Although fans plead with him to return for another on-screen role in the popular Netflix series Ransom Canyon, Josh has directed his focus elsewhere as he prepares for disaster.
He recently disclosed he “has enough” supplies to survive an apocalypse.
“Not 100%. Probably 70%,” he confessed to People. “I could be a better hunter, I could be a better fisherman. I could stockpile a little more food supply.”
Describing how remote his residence is, he disclosed, “The closest store is 40 miles away.”
The actor’s retreat sits approximately an hour and a half from Fargo, North Dakota.
“Once we get there, it’s really about everybody taking care of each other – making memories, spending time with family and friends.
“You’re not consumed by all these other distractions,” Josh explained. “When you’re out there, it’s really about having fun, making sure everybody’s warm, everybody’s got food and water.”
When the actor and his family initially relocated to the property, they had to “get back to the basics.”
They survived without running water, electricity and other conveniences for “a long time.”

Despite numerous people voicing worries about their way of life, he has experienced a feeling of appreciation “to go and really do things with my hands again,” something he mentioned individuals “take for granted.”
“The truth is, yes, people want to call it a doomsday prepper thing, but it’s really not that,” he said. “I’m really more of a guy who wants to stay true to my roots, get back to the basics, hone whatever basic skills I need.
“I don’t think that we’re in any dire situation that we have to worry about prepping for doomsday, but it is good to have some of those skills,” the actor clarified.
Amid Josh’s thriving career, he experienced a pull toward his home state.
“I make movies and TV shows, and I love it, I truly do love it, but I had this calling,” Duhamel explained. “I was getting so far away from it for so long, that I felt like I wanted to get back to some of that.
“There’s something about it that fulfills the soul in a lot of ways.”
